SPEECH
Speeches are usually formal spoken presentations for a particular purpose - often to persuade the audience to support an idea, or to explain/describe an interesting topic or event.
Success Criteria: If you're asked to write a speech the most important thing is that a strong sense of ‘voice’ or viewpoint comes through – make the reason for the speech clear from (or very near) the beginning. - Write in the first person ‘I’ (but use ‘we’ to include the audience!) - Use direct address ‘How would you feel?’ - Clear topic sentences, with separate points/ideas for each paragraph - You don’t need speech marks - Use some informal language, shorter sentences and questions to keep your audience interested - Varied punctuation for effect... (Are you with me? I said are you with me? Good!) - Range of sentence lengths |
